Latics made it three wins and three clean sheets in a row thanks to a 2-0 win over Southend United at Boundary Park.
After a mostly uneventful first-half, Alex Reid capitalised on a mistake by Collin Andeng-Ndi, tapping into the empty net.
Latics changed shape to deal with Southend’s midfield presence, but continued to look for a second goal.
That second goal did come, substitutes Ben Tollitt and Ellis Chapman combined, leading to the latter firing home a great finish from the edge of the box, sealing the points for Latics.
Neither side created anything of much for the first forty minutes, the best chance of the opening periods was Harry Cardwell’s shot from the edge of the box, which was deflected wide by Latics.
The opening goal started following a mistake from Southend ‘keeper Ndi. The young shot-stopper failed to control the ball properly, before Latics’ number 25 snatched it off him, passing the ball into an empty net.
David Unsworth altered Oldham’s formation after half-time, bringing on Ellis Chapman and Hallam Hope in place of John Rooney and Bassala Sambou.
Norman was called into action when tricky winger Jack Bridge made it to the byline and swung a cross in, which was claimed by Magnus.
Devarn Green suffered an injury to his groin on the hour mark, and Ben Tollitt was called upon to replace him.
Bridge had another chance later in the game, Noor Husin’s cross was half-cleared and fell to Bridge, whose shot was deflected inches wide of the post.
With the away side pressing Latics, the second goal came following a neat passing move which set Tollitt on his way, running down the left-wing. After moving into the box, and dummying the defender, he gave the ball to the onrushing Chapman, who fired home with precision.
Reid went looking for his second and Oldham’s third of the game, and he very nearly found it with three minutes to play.
He took the ball round Ndi, and tapped him, but the linesman judged him to have been offside, and the frontman was booked for his protests.
