Chesterfield vs. Latics

18 August 2023

Latics make the trip to Derbyshire, hoping for a repeat of last season’s results.

Last time around, Devarn Green’s early goal saw Oldham pick up all three points at a crucial part of the season.

The opposition

Tomorrow’s hosts have had a great start to the season, winning all three of their opening fixtures.

Their tally of ten goals leaves them top of the scoring charts, but two of their victories being 4-3 and 4-2 wins means they’re certainly vulnerable at the back.

Tuesday night was no cakewalk against basement boys Oxford City, it was only Will Grigg’s 88th minute winner which saw the Spireites runout 2-1 winners in Oxfordshire.

Chesterfield’s last six

Chesterfield 0-1 Derby County (PSF)

Accrington Stanley 2-3 Chesterfield (PSF)

Bristol Rovers 2-0 Chesterfield (PSF)

Chesterfield 4-3 Dorking

AFC Fylde 2-3 Chesterfield

Oxford City 1-2 Chesterfield

Watch out for

The veteran centre-forward has found the net on two occasions in the league so far, first against Fylde a week ago, and the second in the aforementioned game away at Oxford.

Grigg rose to fame in 2016 when a Wigan supporter uploaded the ‘Will Grigg’s on fire chant’ video to YouTube, which has garnered over 4 millions views.

Joining from MK Dons in the summer, having found the net on just five occasions, the 32-year-old will be hoping for a better return this campaign.

In the dugout

Having tasted previous success with today’s hosts during his first spell, Paul Cook returned to the club last year having previously left Ipswich Town.

Prior to that, he spent time with Portsmouth and Wigan, winning League Two and League One titles.

Match officials

Matthew Russell is the man in the middle, and he’ll be assisted by Scott Taylor and Andrew Daniels, with Harry Jones taking up the role of fourth official.

Match coverage and information

The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports, with the programme starting at 12:00pm ahead of a 12:30pm kick-off.

Supporters outside of the UK and Ireland will still be able to stream the game through National League TV.

Please note that, as the game has been selected by TNT Sports, it will not be available on National League's streaming service in this country.

Live audio commentary is available on Latics Player, guiding you through the match.

Alternatively, supporters can also follow the game with live updates on the club's official Twitter account: @OfficialOAFC

As always, we will endeavour to ensure confirmation of the line-up is published as soon as possible on social media.

However, supporters should note that team sheets in the National League are not exchanged until an hour before kick-off. This is 15 minutes later than in the EFL and as a result, the line-up is likely to be published slightly later than in previous seasons.
