Support Oldham's Jack Rafferty!

12 December 2023

This Saturday, Oldham’s Jack Rafferty will contest the Commonwealth Super-lightweight title in Manchester.

Having won the silver commonwealth title in September, 28-year-old Jack will now fight for the full title against Lee Appleyard, from Rotherham, on Saturday 16 December.

The fight, which will double up as a British Title Eliminator, takes place at the Manchester Bowlers Exhibition Centre.

Jack is undefeated in his 21 professional fights since 2017, with his 12 knockouts including the most recent contest against Ben Fields.

Jack, from Shaw, trains out of the Finest Boxing Gym in Manchester, along with his younger brother, Tom, who is also on the bill.

Both boxers recently met the Latics first-team squad at training and were also guests in the Broadway Suite.

“It’s a massive opportunity in my career and it takes me a step closer to what I want to achieve,” Jack said.

“I’m chasing that British title and if I can win this fight, I should put me in a great position to go for the British title next.

“One day I want to be a world champion but I concentrate on myself and want to be the best version of me that I can be.

“It was a great honour to meet the Latics squad and have a good chat with Micky Mellon and Gary Brabin.

“Tom and I are very proud to be representing our home town. The people from Oldham are real people. You’ve only got to look at the support that the football club gets, especially the numbers that go away from home.

"The town deserves great things because there are great people in it and we want to help bring success to Oldham.”
