To mark World Cancer Day, we are proudly supporting the work of Maggie’s, our local cancer support centre, at this afternoon’s game.
The players will warm up in dedicated t-shirts ahead of the match while collections will also take place inside and outside the ground to raise valuable funds for their work.
Maggie's centres provide emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.
The club has developed a very close working relationship with Maggie’s over the years, with all profits raised from the recent book published by Matchday Press Officer, Roy Butterworth, donated to the centre.
Built on the grounds of NHS hospitals but run by an independent charity, Maggie’s work is in partnership with the NHS.
In Oldham, the specialist staff offer one-to-one advice as well as group sessions, workshops and courses aimed at helping to address the physical and psychological impact of living with cancer. All the support the centre offers is also free.
Situated at the side of the Royal Oldham Hospital, the Oldham centre is a rectangular wooden building with a glass roof, near A&E and opposite the Victoria building, overlooking Sheepfoot Lane and Boundary Park at the top of the road.
Roy’s book, A Journey Down Sheepfoot Lane, will also be on sale around the ground this afternoon in the Main Stand concourse and at the Club Shop.
