Support Abid's Work For Turkey-Syria Earthquake Fund

20 February 2023

Latics Academy coach Abid Hussain has flown out to Turkey to assist the support operation in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of two weeks ago.

Abid is a member of Oldham Greenhill Community Sports & Recreation Club, who are collecting funds to donate to the victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquake, which has killed nearly 50,000 people.

He will spend all of the current week in the affected areas in Turkey before returning to England on Friday. He plans to document his time in the area, with the aim of raising awareness of the humanitarian crisis.

Abid, who coaches Latics' U11s side, is now looking for donations through Greenhill Community Club to provide aid to the disaser appeal.

Donations made can be by clicking here.

100% of the donations will go to people affected by the tragedy.

"A friend of mine went over, he was telling me about the work he's doing," Abid said.

"It's not something I've ever done before, but it is half-term at school so I am able to take the time off work, and I thought it was a good opportunity to do my bit for a good cause.

"Greenhill do a lot of projects over here with families and children so I thought we should do something for the people over there.

"The pictures we have seen from there have been devastating so I wanted to try and help as much as possible.

"A lot of charities are collecting money but sometimes things can be missed if you’re not at ground level. My contact in Turkey will take us to the areas which have the biggest needs and we want to make use of every single penny which is donated."
