Sutton Extends Latics Contract

23 February 2023

The club is delighted to announce that Will Sutton has signed a contract extension until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

The 20-year-old joined the Latics youth team in 2018, and signed a professional deal after completing his scholarship in 2021.

As a club, we are very proud of Will's progress over recent years and look forward to seeing him develop further in a Latics shirt.

“I'm extremely pleased to have extended my stay at the club for another few years," Sutton said.

“I’ve been here since I was 16, I’ve grown a lot and feel right at home here.

“It’s been on my mind over the past few months that my contract was up at the end of the season, so to get this all signed off is a great feeling.

“I can’t wait to see how myself and the club progress over the next few years.”

Will made his Latics debut in the EFL Trophy back in 2020, playing the full 90 minutes as Oldham beat Bradford 3-1.

He made his league debut on the last day of that season, coming on for the last 20 minutes against Forest Green Rovers.

Having impressed during his time out on loan with Witton Albion and Farsley Celtic, Will was rewarded with a run of games in the first-team towards the end of last season, scoring goals against Walsall and Sutton in March.

Having picked up an injury during pre-season this year, the youngster returned to action against Dorking, and has been ever present since starting against Dagenham & Redbridge.

A central defender by trade, he has shown great maturity in recent matches at right back and scored his third goal for the club against Gateshead on Tuesday. He signs his new deal after ongoing discussions over recent weeks.

Congratulations, Will!
