Dorking 1-5 Latics

7 January 2023

Latics recorded their first away win of the season, thanks to a Mike Fondop hat-trick and goals from Peter Clarke and Ellis Chapman.

Dorking opened the scoring after nine minutes, James McShane bundling home after a smart save from Magnus Norman.

Mike Fondop scoried the equaliser from close range, before doubling is tally with a fantastic solo effort.

Just before half-time, there was a scramble in the box from a corner, and Peter Clarke went unnoticed and bundled home to send Latics in at the break comfortable.

Latics kept pushing, and Fondop completed his hat-trick when his low driven shot found its way past Dan Lincoln in the Dorking goal.

Unsworth’s team were relentless, and were rewarded once again, when Ellis Chapman scored the fifth to secure an emphatic victory.

The game started slowly for Latics, and they were punished when James McShane fired Dorking into an early lead, following up on a save by Magnus Norman.

However the lead lasted just nine minutes, when Mike Fondop equalised with a nice finish inside the penalty area.

Fondop’s second arrived shortly after and it was a stroke of genius, he flicked the ball up to himself, and fired a stunning strike into the back of the Dorking goal.

James McShane tried his luck from distance on a few occasions, but nothing was troubling Magnus Norman in the Latics goal.

Shortly before half-time Peter Clarke got on the end of a corner and bundled the ball home to send Latics in at the break 3-1 up.

After the interval, Fondop completed his hat-trick when he took the ball on himself, drove at the Dorking defence, and struck low past Dan Lincoln leaving him no chance.

Latics weren’t done there and made it five on 64-minute mark, Chapman robbed Dorking of possession, and made no mistake firing home.

Alex Reid came on in place of the hat-trick hero Fondop, and played a delightful no look pass to Joe Nuttall, who was inches away from making it six for Latics.

Despite Dorking’s best efforts in the closing stages to make a dent in the score line, the Latics defence held firm and saw out the game, to take home the three points.
