Latics vs. York City

24 January 2023

It’s a return to league action for Latics this evening as York City visit Boundary Park.

David Unsworth will be looking to put the FA Trophy exit to Gateshead behind him, and build on the two good results against Notts County and Dorking Wanderers.

The opposition

York are in a fairly comfortable position of 14th, despite the unpopular change of manager in November as John Askey departed.

32 points from 26 games is certainly a good return for a newly promoted size, even if York are historically a club too big for the National League, with a good fan base.

City’s last six

York 1-1 Chelmsford City (5-4 pens)

York 4-1 Maidstone

Gateshead 2-2 York

York 0-3 Gateshead

York 5-0 Blyth Spartans

Woking 0-2 York

Watch out for

Winger Maziar Kouhyar signed for York at the end of last season, and is a big danger on the wing for the The Minstermen.

The 25-year-old has 7 assists to his name this season, with a superb cross accuracy rate of 40%.

Maziar nearly gave up football after being released by Walsall, and went to work in a chicken shop, but he joined Hereford 2021, and earned a move to York in March 2022.

In the dugout

David Webb is in his first managerial job, having been appointed last month after years working in the backroom staff at a number of club.

His CV includes the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Bournemouth, and Huddersfield Town, who he left in October 2021.

Match officials

The match will be officiated by Greg Rollason, with Oliver Nolan and Karl Buckley assisting him. Curtis Wood will be the 4th official.
