Coach Travel Update

31 January 2023

The club values greatly the travelling support from our loyal fans this season but the financial losses that have come with providing coach travel so far have been significant.

The current total loss for the season sits at over £3,000 and although we have provided travel for the majority of matches, we have unfortunately cancelled coaches to a handful of fixtures.

For some recent games, the number of bookings has been in single figures which has meant the running of transport would not be viable.

As a club, we are very grateful for the support we receive at away matches and want to try to ensure we help as many fans as possible to attend.

A number of alternative options have been explored, including the use of smaller vehicles, but unfortunately these aren’t usually cost effective and would result in higher ticket prices to cover the cost. The cost of hiring a smaller vehicle, fuel and a driver remains largely the same for longer distance away games, meaning the use of a smaller vehicle for these matches is only usually marginally cheaper than the usual 57-seater. For one recent game, the price to hire a smaller coach was only £100 cheaper than a full-size coach.

We feel that the prices of coach travel so far this season have been very fair and want to continue to make this service as affordable as possible for supporters.

To try to limit further losses, we will require 30 bookings on each coach to consider it financially viable. We would therefore encourage supporters to book on the coach as early as possible to allow the club to make a decision approximately one week before the match.

This is needed as the club faces financial penalties from the coach company for late cancellations and an earlier decision will also allow supporters to seek alternative travel arrangements if needed. Coach travel will go on sale earlier and we will update supporters ahead of each game.

Coach travel for the upcoming away games at Gateshead (Tuesday 21 February) and Chesterfield (Saturday 25 February) are now on sale and can be booked here.

We would also like to remind supporters that no alcohol is permitted on the official club coach in line with the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985.

Young Latics fans between the ages 14 and 17 are able to travel independently on the coach if a parent or guardian signs the official consent form. The can be found here, or picked up from the Ticket Office.
