Hyde United 0-0 Latics

8 July 2023

Latics played out a goalless draw against Hyde United in their opening pre-season friendly.

David Unsworth opted to select two separate teams for each half, with only Will Sutton and Benny Couto playing the full 90.

Jack Redshaw was a cause for concern during the first-half, as he had a number of shots on goal, but failed to find the net.

Latics stepped up their game in the second-half, with Josh Lundstram in midfield causing problems, and Mike Fondop being a handful up front.

Kofi Moore made a bright start to his professional Latics career, being a real nuisance on the right wing, showing attacking intent with a series of dribbles and runs into the box.

Joe Nuttall, now sporting the number 10 jersey, saw an opening and pulled the trigger from about 30 yards out, forcing Trialist A to nudge the ball past the post.

Nuttall turned creator for Couto moments later, with the Portuguese native having a go with his own long-range shot.

The second-half saw the vast majority of Latics’ XI change, with just Couto and Sutton remaining from the first period.

Green and Tollitt were dangerous attacking outlets on both wings, creating a number of chances for Willoughby and Fondop.

Lundstram ran the midfield for Oldham in the second-half, retrieving the ball from the Hyde midfielders, and looking to get the ball forward.

Latics’ most recent signing, Charlie Raglan, showcased his passing abilities, playing a long ball forward for Fondop, who brought the ball down and looked for a pass, before being tackled.

First-half: Hudson, Couto, Hobson, Cookson, Sutton, Kitching, Sheron, Moore, Reid, Nuttall.

Second-half: Norman, Chapman, Hogan, Raglan, Green, Lundstram, Tollitt, Sutton, Couto, Willoughby, Fondop.
