Academy Players Agree Deals

9 June 2023

We are pleased to confirm that four players from last season's Youth Team have now agreed terms with the club.

Llyton Chapman, Frazer Cookson, Jake Forshaw and Kofi Moore have all put pen-to-paper on the deals they were offered last month.

The club is pleased to be supporting the continued development of the young players who have all enjoyed successful spells in the youth team over the past two years and are looking forward to seeing them flourish further.

First team manager, David Unsworth, gave the youngsters their plaudits for their hard work over the past two years.

"The boys who have signed have had a great season with the academy, and we wanted to reward them.

"What we’re offering the lads is quite unique, in that each of them will have individual plans and work set out for them.

"Every single one of them will go out on loan at different levels, before they return for us to assess where they are at. We have a great opportunity for us to see how they’re doing and gauge the progress they’ve made.

"These players are a product of our own club and we want to look after them which they deserve."

A central defender, Llyton Chapman joined the academy as a first-year scholar, and has been praised for possessing a strong mindset, and being a tough defender. He’s also comfortable with the ball at his feet, and likes to play out from the back where possible.

Frazer Cookson was captain of the youth team last year, emerging as a mix between an old school and modern defender. He relishes a good tackle and challenge, but can also play out from the back and retain control of the ball under pressure.

Kofi Moore, pictured above, joined the club as a no. 10, but has since changed to playing out wide. Despite a few injury problems in the past season, has really shone and the attacker was still able to show off his great pace, strength, and dribbling ability.

Finally, a centre-forward with a keen eye for goal, Jake Forshaw found the net on 31 occasions last season for the youth team. In addition to his goalscoring exploits, the youngster is known for his aggression and work ethic, becoming the focal point of the attack last campaign.
