Youth Team Development Squad Trials

19 June 2023

The Academy is delighted to announce the launch of the new Oldham Athletic Youth Development Squad, with applications for an upcoming trial date next month now being taken.

With a unique chance of being based at Boundary Park, the exciting new programme will give young people a brilliant opportunity to receive professional football training alongside studying for an academic qualification.

The Academy is now looking for players who will qualify for the U17s age category during 2023/24 to join a full-time set-up by adding to those currently in place.

The new programme provides a great opportunity for players within the development squad to impress. The squad will compete at an excellent standard in the National League Youth Alliance, with players also given the chance to train and play with the main Youth Team.

Those looking to join the new programme are now invited to register for a trials day.

The trials will take place on Sunday 9 July at Chapel Road, Oldham Athletic’s first-team training ground. There will be a number of trials depending on numbers, beginning at 10.30am.

Applicants will be notified of their trial time upon acceptance.

It is important that:

  • You are at an age where you are leaving school this summer (June 2023)
  • You currently reside within suitable travelling distance of Boundary Park
  • To register, you fully complete this document: https://forms.office.com/e/5WkWeU1QR2
  • Your application is submitted by no later than Thursday 6 July.

Those who are invited to the trial will be contacted as soon as possible.

The club’s new Academy Manager, Paul Murray, said: “The opportunity to introduce a youth team development squad is a hugely exciting move for the club and provides a massive opportunity to youngsters within the area.

“As a club, we have a proud track record for developing our own talent, and we want to give young people every chance to harness their talents.

“The programme is something different than any other as our U17s will be on-site every day at Boundary Park, so they'll actually be able to see them and be dipping into our training sessions sometimes.

"I have always been of the belief that there are people out there who miss the first cut in their career but still have the ability to make it as a professional.

“Not only is it an excellent education in terms of a qualification, with the chance to obtain an NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity, but with our fully qualified Uefa coaches, there will be a platform to fulfil your potential at both football and education.”
