Latics vs. Boreham Wood

4 March 2023

Latics are back on home turf as they welcome Boreham Wood to Boundary Park on the back of two impressive away victories.

Last time out, David Unsworth’s men secured a 3-1 win against Barnet with Mark Kitching, Mike Fondop and Peter Clarke on the scoresheet as well as Magnus Norman stopping a crucial spot kick.

In their last two outings, Latics have beaten two promotion hopefuls and will be hoping to do the same this time around.

The opposition

Currently in their eighth successive season in the National league, the Wood have become a well-established side at this level.

Their performances this season so far mean that they are in the hunt for a spot in the playoff places.

They currently sit eighth in the table, just one point below Southend United who occupy the final playoff spot.

Form guide

Latics know that they will have their work cut out if they are to make it three wins on the bounce as Boreham Wood have shown how hard they are to beat.

They have gone 11 National League games without tasting defeat and it took Sky Bet League One side Accrington Stanley a replay and extra time to overcome them in the FA Cup.

Similarly to Oldham, Boreham Wood go into the fixture on the back of two straight wins.

The Wood’s last six

Boreham Wood 1-0 Dorking Wanderers

Boreham Wood 2-0 Scunthorpe United

York City 1-1 Boreham Wood

Boreham Wood 1-1 FC Halifax

Boreham Wood 1-1 Solihull Moors

Watch out for

Lee Ndlovu has 11 goals to his name across all competitions this term.

Most recently on the scoresheet in their 2-0 win over Scunthorpe, Latics fans are likely to have bad memories of the front man as he scored both of his side’s goal back in December as Boreham Wood ran out 2-1 winners over Oldham.

The 28-year old forward joined the club in the summer from National league North outfit Brackley Town.

He netted 15 times for his former employees as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the National League.

He has taken well to the step up in divisions and will be looking to add to his tally at Boundary Park this weekend.

In the dugout

Luke Garrard is the man in the dugout for the visitors.

The 37-year old has been in charge at Meadow Park since October 2015 and upon his appointment he was the youngest manager across the top five divisions of English football.

His reign has been an impressive one thus far, leading the Wood into the playoffs as well as overseeing a brilliant FA Cup run that saw them reach the fifth round.

As a player, he also represented his current employees as well as a host of other sides.

Match officials

Garreth Rhodes is the man in the middle, with Hugh Gilroy and Emily Carney running the lines. Joe Cunningham will be the fourth official.
