It was heartbreak for Latics as Jack Stevens’ overhead kick in the last minute saw them grab a point at Boundary Park.
Oldham went ahead early on in the game, when Mark Kitching found the bottom corner with a wonderful drilled effort from outside the box, having controlled the first ten minutes.
Latics continued to be the better of the two teams for most of the game, but Stevens found the net with an overhead kick in the dying minutes of the game.
Athletic started brightly, Rooney produced a moment of magic, and chipped the ball through for Devarn Green, but the winger couldn’t get the ball under control before being tackled.
Green returned the favour moments later, he looked for Rooney with a cross, but an away defender made the vital interception.
Kitching got his second goal of the season when he found some space outside the box, his powerful shot found the far corner, beating Boot.
Sambou, making his Boundary Park debut, had two chances within minutes of each other, his first was deflected wide, with his second going wide.
Latics went in at the break having been the better of the two sides.
Rooney had a golden chance to double Athletic’s lead, Green darted into the box before losing possession, but Sutton picked the ball up and put the ball on a plate for the midfielder, but could only put it wide.
Fondop and Abraham came on in place of Nuttall and Sambou, completely changing the attacking dynamic.
Fondop was denied by the post as stoppage time approached, following his curled effort from distance.
Solihull won a free-kick in a wide area, flung the ball in, with it eventually falling to Stevens, whose overhead kick hit the back of the net.
A disappointing finish to a great performance,
