Eastleigh To Be Dedicated Remembrance Fixture

6 November 2023

Oldham Athletic will remember British Service Members who have lost their lives in wars and military conflicts, with a ceremony taking place this next weekend’s fixture against Eastleigh at Boundary Park.

Players, coaching staff and match officials will emerge from the tunnel slightly earlier than usual, with the 1855 (Royton) Squadron RAF Cadets performing the guard of honour to welcome the players onto the pitch.

Following this, the poppy wreaths will then be laid on the edge of the centre circle before a minute's silence being observed, during which the Last Post will be played as a mark of respect to remember those who have lost their lives in service of their country.

Amongst those helping to carry out the honours will be the Royton Branch of the British Legion, who will be at the game collecting for the Poppy Appeal, as is now tradition at the closest home fixture to Armistice Day each year.

In addition, Oldham Athletic players will warm up in SSAFA t-shirts, to demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces charity. SSAFA helps the armed forces community in a number of ways, with a main focus on providing direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care.

Addiction, relationship breakdown, debt, homelessness, post-traumatic stress, depression and disability are all issues that can affect members of the Armed Forces community. Many of these problems only become apparent when an individual has to leave their life in the Forces and join ‘Civvy Street’. SSAFA is committed to helping our brave men and women overcome these problems, and rebuild their lives.

We have been working closely and  in partnership with our Veterans Supporters Group and would like to announce that as part of the remembrance event serving Armed Forces and veteran personnel can claim one complimentary ticket for the game per person for the fixture, with the club making a limited number of tickets available by way of demonstrating its thanks.
