Mummy’s Star is the UK and Ireland’s only charity focussed on cancer support specifically during or around pregnancy and has touched the lives of many Oldham families.
Established ten years ago in memory of Mair Wallroth, of Glossop, the charity focusses its work on seven main areas.
The first area is care, offering personalised one to one support for every family. The charity also facilitates online forums for women and their partners where they feel safe to ask questions, share their anxieties and offer ‘peer to peer’ support to one another.
Mummy’s Star is a ‘one stop shop’ for advice and information about a cancer diagnosis in and around pregnancy. It also provides advocacy on behalf families to ensure informed choice throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatally.
Education and awareness is another important area in delivering a bespoke education to student and existing healthcare professionals. Non means tested grants also to help families pay for unexpected costs that arise after their cancer diagnosis.
They also provide pre and bereavement support, when a person knows they will die they help support memory making and emotional support in advance of and after for the surviving partner and children.
