Bromley 3-0 Latics

16 September 2023

Latics suffered defeat at Hayes Lane against Bromley.

The hosts went into the break two goals up thanks to Passley and Woods.

Bromley failed to convert a penalty, when Hudson made a superb save, but they found a third through Whiteley.

The opening plays of the game were end-to-end, Latics had a handful of half chances, as did Bromley, who had a goal disallowed for offside following a quick counter-attack.

The first goal came when Josh Passley latched on to a loose ball inside the box, acted instinctively, and fired the ball past Hudson.

With moments to go until the half time whistle, the South London outfit doubled their lead, Sam Woods poked home from a cross which Latics failed to clear from a handful of yards out.

Brennan Dickenson replaced Dan Ward at half-time, as David Unsworth looked to find a way back into the game.

Bromley were handed a penalty just before the hour-mark, with Michael Cheek stepping up to take it.

But Hudson guessed the right way, getting down well to save Cheek’s spot-kick.

Following that, Kurt Willoughby and James Norwood came on in place of Devarn Green and Mike Fondop, as Latics chased the game.

Bromley’s third came as they nicked the ball off Latics and played the ball into the box, with Corey Whitely firing home first time.
