Chairman Frank Rothwell has been recognised by Alzheimer’s Research UK for becoming the charity’s the largest individual challenge fundraiser.
Frank undertook the amazing feat of rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean for a second time this winter, overcoming the most difficult of conditions to complete the accomplishment.
In doing so, he set a new world record in becoming the oldest person to row across any ocean solo, taking his total fundraising for the charity to over £1.4m.
Frank showed great fortitude to complete his row in 64 days, rowing from San Sebastián de La Gomera to Nelson’s Dockyards, Antigua, despite capsizing four times.
He was presented with a certificate in recognition of his overall fundraising by Simon McDermott, Regional Fundraising Officer for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
“It has been a great privilege to work with Alzheimer’s Research UK in raising vital funds and awareness of their work,” Frank said.
“The charity plays a hugely important role in the fight against dementia and it has been an honour to be able to be able to make this contribution to their overall work.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me during my fundraising and to Alzheimer’s Research UK for their recognition.”
