Oldham’s winning run in the league came to an end at the hands of Woking at Boundary Park.
Micky Mellon’s side entered today’s fixture having won four league matches on the bounce, and were looking to make it five.
Woking had a solid start, holding a fair amount of possession and creating a number of chances, and thought they’d taken the lead just before the break, just for it to be ruled out for offside.
The Cards would take the lead, just on the other side of the half-time, with Jermaine Anderson firing home from just inside the box.
Latics pressed for an equaliser, but couldn’t find one, as Woking put eleven men behind the ball.
The visitors started the game brightly, causing Latics a few problems with balls into the box, but that’s not to say Oldham didn’t have any chances of their own.
Raglan saw his side-footed shot go just wide of the goal, whilst Fondop was a handful, getting in behind and putting a cross into an empty box, later nodding a good ball across the face of goal, to no avail.
Sachdev fired a ball across the pitch, inline with the 18-yard box, but Lundstram, Norwood and Fondop failed to make contact, in what would have been good shooting positions.
Scott Cuthbert thought he’d put Michael Doyle’s side ahead just before the break, with his header beating Mat Hudson, but after him and his teammates wheeled away in celebration for a good ten seconds, the linesman raised his flag due to Lewis Walker’s offside position.
Latics would have felt a little bit hard done going in at the break a goal down, but moments after the game resumed, they’d be behind for real.
Anderson, who’d had a shot cleared off the line near the end of the first-half by McGahey, fired the Cards into the lead from inside the box, completing a good counter-attacking move the away side.
Micky had to inject more attacking impetus into the side, bringing on Ethan Walker in place of McGahey, and changing shape to a 4-3-3.
With the hour-mark approaching, Tom Conlon, for fitness reasons, departed, being replaced by Oli Hammond.
Latics’ attacking output improved, with more half-chances being created, but still nothing which caused Woking too much panic.
The best opportunities probably came via Norwood, with his first seeing his shot deflected behind as he battled with three defenders, and his second being a diving header, which was easily collected by Alexis Andre.
Andrew Dallas made his debut with 25 to go, replacing Fondop, but couldn’t do much to rectify Oldham’s situation.
Woking sat deeper and deeper, putting more and more men behind the ball, and Oldham just couldn’t find a way through.
