Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of versatile midfielder Luke Hannant.

The 31-year-old joins on a permanent two-year-deal as Micky Mellon continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2025/26 League Two campaign.

Comfortable operating across midfield and out wide, Hannant arrives at Boundary Park with significant EFL and National League experience, having previously represented the likes of Cambridge United, Colchester United and Port Vale.

Born in King’s Lynn, Hannant began his senior career with Gateshead in 2016 after spells in the academies of Norwich City and Dereham Town.

His performances in the National League earned him a move to Port Vale in January 2018, where he made 68 appearances across two seasons in League Two.

He returned to Gateshead for a brief spell in 2019 before stepping back up to the EFL with Cambridge United, helping the U’s win promotion from League Two in the 2020/21 season.

A two-year stint at Colchester followed before rejoining Gateshead last summer, where he played a key role in their strong 2024/25 campaign, scoring 15 goals in 44 appearances.

Known for his energy, delivery and work rate, Hannant adds further quality and depth to the Latics’ midfield options and becomes the latest arrival as pre-season preparations continue to gather pace.

Speaking about the move, Micky Mellon said: “Luke’s a player we’ve admired for a long time and he brings exactly the kind of qualities we want in this squad.

"He’s technically strong, covers a lot of ground and has the sort of versatility that will be really useful over the course of the season.

"He’s got plenty of experience at this level and above, and he’ll fit into our group really well both on and off the pitch.”

On signing for the club, Luke Hannant added: “I’m buzzing to be here and can’t wait to get started.

"Oldham’s a massive club with a great fanbase and big ambitions, and the chance to be part of that was something I really wanted.

"After speaking to the gaffer and hearing about the plans, it felt like the right move and I’m looking forward to helping the team have a successful season.”

Welcome to the club, Luke!
