Simeu Signs For Latics
First Team
7 November 25
Oldham Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of defender Dynel Simeu on a deal until 3 January 2026.
The 23-year-old centre-back joins Latics after most recently playing in Albania for Teuta, where he made 15 appearances.
Simeu began his youth career at Chelsea before returning to his hometown club in 2021, when Southampton signed him for a reported substantial fee.
Highly rated at the time, he spent three years with the Saints and featured regularly for their U23 side, making 15 appearances, while also representing Chelsea’s U23s 25 times prior to that.

During his time at Southampton, Dynel gained valuable first-team experience through three loan spells in the EFL.
He played for Carlisle United playing 18 games, Tranmere Rovers making 17 appearances and scoring 1 goal and Morecambe in League One where he made 18 appearances.
At international level, Simeu represented England from U17 to U19, showcasing his leadership and defensive qualities on the national stage.
Unfortunately, his progress at Southampton was halted by a serious injury, a ruptured Achilles suffered in August 2023, but he has since worked hard to return to full fitness and continue his professional journey abroad before now joining Latics.

Speaking after signing, Dynel said: “I’m really grateful for the opportunity to join Oldham.
“I feel ready to get back to my best and help the team in any way I can and this feels a great opportunity.
“The club has great ambition and I’m excited to be part of it.
"I've worked with the manager, I like what he's about so hopefully this can be a great match."
Manager Micky Mellon added: “Dynel is a powerful and composed defender with great potential.
“I’ve had him at Tranmere and he’s had an excellent upbringing in top academies and valuable experience in the Football League.
“We believe this is a great environment for him to kick on and show what he can do.”
Dynel will wear the number 40 shirt.
Welcome to the club, Dynel.
