Harrogate Town vs. Latics
Match Previews
8 November 25
It’s a return to league action for Latics this weekend as they travel to North Yorkshire to face Harrogate Town in Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture.
After enduring a winless October, Latics got off to a flyer with an impressive cup performance last weekend.
A Michael Mellon hat-trick, which included a stunning overhead kick just three minutes in, saw Micky Mellon’s side progress past League One opposition Northampton Town. A late strike from Cameron McGeehan proved only a consolation as Oldham ran out 3–1 winners at Boundary Park.
Oldham head into the weekend sitting 18th in League Two, four points clear of the bottom two.

Opposition
Harrogate come into Saturday’s fixture two points behind Oldham, sitting 19th in the table.
The 2025/26 campaign marks Harrogate’s sixth consecutive season in League Two, following their promotion from the National League in 2020. Last season, the Sulphurites finished 18th, comfortably avoiding relegation by 11 points.
However, the Yorkshire side are currently enduring a poor run of form, having suffered five straight defeats in all competitions. Last weekend, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by League One side Mansfield Town. Despite twice coming from behind to level the score, a late strike from George Maris seven minutes from time sealed Mansfield’s place in the next round.

Key Players
Stephen Duke-McKenna is Harrogate’s standout attacking threat, capable of operating on either flank. The winger is the club’s top scorer this season with six goals in all competitions. He netted last weekend to make it 1–1, rifling a shot into the top-left corner from the edge of the area
Jack Muldoon, who provided the assist for that goal, remains another key figure for the Sulphurites. His pace and intelligent movement off the shoulder of defenders cause constant problems for opposition backlines. The striker is expected to lead the line again on Saturday, having scored in four of his last seven league appearances.

In the Dugout
Simon Weaver continues to lead Harrogate Town, having guided the club from the sixth tier to the Football League during his remarkable 16-year tenure.
A former defender, Weaver began his playing career at Sheffield Wednesday before a loan spell with Doncaster Rovers. He later featured in non-league football with Ilkeston Town and Nuneaton Borough, before returning to the Football League with Lincoln City in 2002.
Subsequent spells with Macclesfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers followed, before Weaver spent the remainder of his career in non-league football with clubs including York City, Tamworth, Boston United, and King’s Lynn Town.
Weaver took over as player-manager at Harrogate Town in 2009 when the club were in the Conference North. He guided them to promotion to the National League via the play-offs in 2018, the highest level in the club’s history at the time.
Two years later, following FA Trophy success, Weaver led Harrogate to another milestone with a 3–1 win over Notts County at Wembley that secured a historic promotion to the Football League.
Since then, Weaver has maintained Harrogate’s EFL status across five consecutive seasons and was named Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month in January 2024.
