Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce that manager Micky Mellon has signed a new two-year deal, extending his stay at Boundary Park.

The manager who delivered the club’s first success in over three decades has committed his future to Latics, continuing the progress made since his arrival.

Mellon guided Latics to promotion from the National League last season, securing a fifth-place finish with 73 points before an impressive play-off campaign. Victories over Halifax Town (4-0), York City (3-0) and Southend United (3-2) in the final sealed a return to the EFL in memorable fashion.

That success marked Mellon’s sixth promotion as a manager, underlining his pedigree and experience across the divisions.

Despite a shortened pre-season due to the extended play-off run, Mellon has overseen a strong start to life back in the Football League, with Latics currently sitting 11th in the table.

This season also saw Mellon surpass 800 games as a manager following the fixture against Cambridge United, a milestone that reflects his longevity and consistency in the game.

Since taking charge of the club, Mellon has led Latics in 129 matches across 887 days, recording 51 victories. He is also the first Oldham Athletic manager to remain in position for over a year since Lee Johnson.

On extending his stay, Mellon said: “I’m delighted to be continuing my journey with this football club. From the moment I arrived, I knew there was something here to build on.

“We’ve achieved an important step together with promotion, but there is still plenty more to come. I’m fully committed to continuing what we’ve started and pushing this club forward.

“I’ve always been commited to driving standards and I believe we’ve done a lot of good work, but we’re not going to settle with that, we’ll always strive for more."

“The supporters have been outstanding, and together we’ll keep striving to bring more success to Oldham.”

The Board of Oldham Athletic said: "Micky has made an extraordinary impact over the past two-and-a-half years, most notably guiding our club to its first promotion in 34 years and securing a much-cherished return to the EFL - a feat which will forever be part of our proud history.

"That achievement will live long in the memory of everyone connected with the club and stands as a testament to Micky’s professionalism, determination and ability to inspire both players and supporters alike.

"Micky’s leadership has helped reconnect the club with its identity and instilled a belief that continues to drive standards higher every day.

"His new contract is not only recognition of past success but also a reflection of our shared ambition for the future.

"We harbour the same desire to build on what has already been an excellent first season back in the EFL, continue the current momentum and keep progressing both on and off the pitch.

"Together, we believe Micky and his team are the right people to lead our club into this next chapter and we look forward to achieving further success together."

Congratulations, Micky!
