MATCH PREVIEW: Peterborough United vs. Oldham Athletic

19 January 2018

Oldham Athletic travel to the ABAX Stadium to face Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One tomorrow afternoon (3pm kick off).

Athletic head into the game with confidence after a midweek Checkatrade Trophy win over Leicester City under 21s.

A brace from Craig Davies and further goals from Anthony Gerrard and Tope Obadeyi secured Latics’ passage through to the next round of the competition.

That followed a draw against Rotherham United last week which was Athletic’s first point of 2018.

Peterborough United are three without a win in the league but enjoyed cup success in both the FA Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy.

They beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup and they set up a quarter final tie against Lincoln City in the Checkatrade Trophy following a penalty shootout win over Luton Town.

Posh currently sit 9th in Sky Bet League One and have picked up 40 points from 27 games.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wellens said: ““It will be a good football match. They will be really open in possession and they won’t change the way they play.

“Marriott will play up front on his own and Lloyd will play one side with Maddison on the other, both will come inside a lot and get their shots off.

“Maddison has one of the highest assists whilst Marriott is the top goalscorer in the league. They are good in possession but very open when they lose the ball.”

Sky Bet have listed Athletic as outsiders for tomorrow’s match at 21/10 whilst the visitors 11/10.
