In May 2019, the defender put pen to paper on a two-year deal with an option for a further year. He initially signed for Latics in January 2018 on loan from Nottingham Forest.

The versatile defender progressed through the academy at Nottingham Forest and in August 2016 he made in professional debut in a 4-3 win against Burton Albion. In the same season, Alex secured a loan move to Mansfield Town and featured eight times for the Stags.

The former Scotland U21 defender signed for Forest Green Rovers on loan in July 2017. He made 14 appearances for the club and netted one goal, before his loan was cut short at the start of 2018.

In January, Iacovitti signed for Latics on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season. Alex played nine times for the club, where he slotted into the defence at left-back and centre-back.
