Piergianni joined Latics on a permanent deal in August 2020 following a successful loan spell in the second-half of the 2019/20 season.
He began his football career with Peterborough United before moving on to Stockport County, Corby Town, Boston United, South Melbourne and Salford City.
The centre back was a big part of the Salford City side that won promotion to the football league.
Piergianni has been a mainstay in the Latics backline since his arrival and he was awarded the armband for the leadership that he shows on and off the pitch.
