Barnett joined Latics on an initial short-term deal in September 2020 following a successful trial with the club in pre-season.
He came through the ranks of Premier League side Burnley before signing for his hometown club Barnsley in 2018.
The young left back spent the last few years as part of the Under 23 set-up at Oakwell.
