Oldham Athletic beat off competition from several clubs to secure the services of Ryan McLaughlin.

He signed a one-year contract in 2016 with the option to extend for a further season.

McLaughlin is a former Liverpool right back/right winger who left the Merseyside club in 2016 in search of regular football.

During his time at Anfield, he played in a pre-season friendly against Roma against the legendary Francesco Totti.

He also had loan spells at Barnsley and Aberdeen during his time with the Reds but elected to leave to further his career.

He joined Latics and, although it took him some time to adapt, he became an immediate name on the team sheet under John Sheridan.

McLaughlin played a number of positions in the 2016/17 season including right back, right midfield and striker.

He scored two goals during the season, one of which was a contender for Goal of the Season.

At the end of the season, Latics took the option to extend his contract for a further season, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2017/18 season.

McLaughlin has been capped at every Northern Irish level, from under 16 to the national team.
