Hamer is another successful product of the academy setup, making his first team debut on the 17th of January 2018 in a 4-2 win over Leicester City U21s in the EFL Trophy.

The now 21 year-old has gone from strength-to-strength in his early career with Latics so far and has become a key part of the squad in previous years, marking his 100th apperance for the club in all competitions as captain.

Hamer is most commonly utilised at right back with his long throws and overlapping runs but has also shown his versatility by playing at centre-back at times.
