Ahead of the home fixture against Wealdstone last Saturday, the first meeting of the Oldham Athletic academic board took place.
The board is formed of Latics-supporting senior academics from across the country and who are experienced a range of subject disciplines, with the purpose of helping the club make decisions.
The members of the board are from further and higher education institutions that value continuous learning and community engagement and hence support their staff engaging with a community-based sports club like Oldham Athletic.
The board will draw relevant insights from published academic research, will carry out research themselves, and will seek to develop the links between further/higher education and both the club and the town of Oldham.

The academic board will be hugely valuable to the football club and local community providing lots of incentives for whole of the club.

Prof Lynne Bianchi, University of Manchester, Prof Tim Lees, University of Reading, Prof Andrew Prestwich, University of Leeds, Prof Peter Shapely, University of Bangor Prof James Reade, University of Reading and Ronnie Todd, an independent Board member and Education Industry consultant were all in attendance highlighting the vast range of expertees available.

Latics CEO Darren Royle said: “We are delighted to welcome members of our new academic board, which we believe to be a unique development for a football club.
“The academics come from diverse backgrounds and are all Oldham supporters. They are committed to commissioning research and providing advice to the club in various areas.
“Moving forward, the board will be hugely valuable for the club and future projects. They will work in assessing the club’s economic and social impact, working on major educational events and advising on future academic conferences at the club."
