Taylor Joins On Loan

Oldham Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of Sam Taylor on loan from Tranmere Rovers until 30 January.

Taylor is a product of the Tranmere academy and signed his first professional contract in January 2022 after impressing for the U18s side.

He scored 11 goals in half a season, catching the eye and impressing the first team management setup.

"I'm buzzing to be here, this is a huge club and there's a great chance to help my development as a player so I can't wait to get going," he said.

"I obviously want to play games, so I spoke to my agent, and when he said Oldham was an opportunity, I couldn't say no.

"I'm really excited to work with the management staff, I know they'll look after me here so I can't wait to pull on a blue shirt.

"I'm a player who likes to drive forward, get fans off their seats, and get people excited so I hope there's plenty of that in my time here."

Sam made his debut for Tranmere in October 2022 in a 5-3 defeat against Leeds U21s in the EFL Trophy and went on to make seven appearances in the season.

In February 2023 he joined Northern Premier League Division One West side Bootle on loan for the rest of season, making nine appearances and scoring one goal.

The 2023/24 season saw Sam gain more game time for Rovers, playing 25 times in all competions, scoring three goals. This season, game time has been limited and he joins Latics looking to kick start his campaign.

Manger Micky Mellon is happy to have acquired his services. He said: "Sam is someone I know very well, I know what's he capable of and his attributes so I'm delighted to bring him here.

"He's a young lad who's had to fight his way into the first team set up at Tranmere and that just shows the character he has.

"I want to have as many options as possible, to have quality players that will fight and push each other all the way in a competitive manner and that's exactly what Sam will bring."

Sam will wear the number 32 shirt.
