Boundary Park is set to play host to a new initiative in 2025, with Oldham Athletic Football Club (OAFC) & Oldham Athletic Community Trust (OACT) jointly launching ‘Silver Latics’.

The initiative will be aimed at those within the local community aged 55 and over and will be free of charge and open to all. Running bi-weekly, Silver Latics will be a warm bank providing the opportunity to stay warm, enjoy a hot meal and socialise with others.

Ahead of the project officially launching in 2025 there is an open event being held on Wednesday 11th December 2024, 11am-1pm within the Joe Royle Stand, whereby local members of the community are invited to join us at Boundary Park for feedback on ideas around the project. In addition to hot refreshments (including a soup and a roll) Oldham Athletic owner Frank Rothwell will be present as the ambassador for the initiative.

Martin Vose, OACT Head of Community, commented: “ Looking at the rising costs of energy and continued pressures on household bills, we know it is getting harder to keep warm at home but we want to do our best to help. It is a pleasure to work with Oldham Athletic to implement this latest community initiative with both organisations working together to benefit those locally in need.

"The community ethos that has run through Oldham Athletic since the takeover by the Rothwell family is exemplified by the football club owner, Frank Rothwell, joining us for our initial launch event. I can`t think of too many football clubs where this would happen and instances such as this are what makes Oldham Athletic unique.

"The initial launch event is very much around us gaining feedback from those who will be using and attending, we want to ensure that it meets people's needs so please do come along to Boundary Park on the 11 December and give us your opinions and how can shape Silver Latics."

Also there on the day will be Barry Johnston, who helps at the club with supporter liaison, and has been following Latics for over 50 years.

On the initiaive Barry said: "This is a great initiative that hopefully, will grip the imagination of some of the fans who have followed the club loyally for many years.

"It's an opportunity for us to get together and reminisce about the club, as well as the chance to say hello to both old and new friends in a relaxed and comfortable environment. I'm really looking forward to seeing some faces that I haven't seen for a long time."
