Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Sam Clucas on a deal until 31 May.

The 34-year-old joins Latics with plenty of EFL experience for the likes of Hull City, Swansea, Stoke and Rotherham United.

Clucas started his career at Leicester City where he spent seven years from 2001 to 2008, before joining Lincoln City.

After trails at Bisham Abbey, Sam was offered a two-year scholarship at the Glenn Hoddle Academy which allowed him to play for Fourth Tier Spanish Side Jerez Industrial.

“I’m delighted to sign and finally get this done,” he said.

“I’ve been training with the group for a couple of weeks now and it’s a great group to come into.

“There’s a mix of experience and youth, and the manager is great to work with so this is an exciting opportunity.

“It’s obviously a massive club that shouldn’t be at the level they are, so if I can come in and share my experience with the lads then hopefully we can achieve some success.”

It was back to England next where Hereford followed, he made 58 appearances scoring eight goals.

Spells at Mansfield and Chesterfield followed  before he signed a three-year-deal with Hull City. He played 52 times in the 2015-16 season helping the Tigers gain a return to the Premier League.

The Tigers were relegated the following campaign  and Clucas signed a four-year-deal with Swansea City where he made 29 appearances.

Clucas arguably enjoyed the best spell of his career at Stoke City, making 131 appearances over a five year period scoring 18 goals.

Rotherham United were his most recent club joining in September 2023 for the remainder of the Championship campaign.

Manager Micky Mellon is delighted to acquire his services: “Sam’s a real coup for the club, he’s a player that can really help us.

“When the quality is available you always want to add to the group, we’ve managed to move a few things around and we’re so happy to bring him in.

“Sam has been with us for a few weeks now and you can see the quality he brings, he’s a strong personality who can play a number of positions.

“He adds to the squad and he’s the type of player who will give us a different dimension to our play and style with his versatility,”

Sam will wear the number 4 shirt.

Welcome to the club, Sam!
