Match Reports
28 September 24
Latics were looking to continue their impressive record and add to the three victories registered in their last three outings.
From the offset the visitors looked to start on the front foot. A Latics free-kick won by Joe Garner was cleared by the hosts but only to the feet of Tom Conlon who’s defected effort was saved well by Mark Cousins in the Ebbsfleet goal and pushed out for a corner.
Latics had the majority of the ball for the first-half ,looking to break down the resolute Ebbsfleet defence, Mark Kitching next came close when he beat his man and fired, but his effort was always rising.
For the rest of the half, Latics saw plenty of the ball but there were no notable chances for either side and it was goalless at the interval.
The second-half commenced and Latics came out all guns blazing.
On the 48th minute, from a corner that was cleared Conlon delivered a high ball back into the box, Mike Fondop flicked the ball into the path of Kitching who made no mistake and nodded home.
Ebbsfleet looked to come back into it, Dominic Poleon looked lively up top for the hosts, but on multiple occasions the striker was halted brilliantly by Shaun Hobson to relieve any danger.
Otis Khan came close for Latics just minutes later, he took the ball and beat two men advancing towards goal, his strike though was saved excellently by Mark Cousins.
The hosts on the 80th minute won a penalty after a corner came in from the left. Kitching, the goalscorer, was adjudged to have fouled in the area and the referee pointed to the spot.
Up stepped ex-Latic Poleon and he sent Mat Hudson the wrong way levelling the scores.
Latics didn’t accept the set-back and looked straight away to get back in front.
Just five minutes later, substitute Jesurun Uchegbulam took the ball past his man on the left and played a low, inviting ball into the box and Khan was there to fire home and put the visitors back ahead.
The hosts didn’t trouble Latics in the final stages and the referee blew his whistle to signal another three points for Latics and make the trip back from Kent an enjoyable one.
