First Team

Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of defender Charlie Olson from Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan.
The 20-year-old, who captained Rovers’ Under-21s, gained valuable senior experience last season with Altrincham in the National League, making 25 appearances towards the back end of the campaign.
Olson’s performances earned him Altrincham’s Young Player of the Year award for 2024/25, helping the Robins secure a ninth-place finish narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

Originally he joined Alty on a one-month loan in January, and the move was quickly extended until the end of the season after he impressed with his performances.
Having first joined Blackburn in 2012 from Sunday League side Town Green, Olson has progressed through the club’s ranks, becoming a key figure within the Under-18s and academy set-up before stepping up to captain the Under-21s.
In July 2024, he signed a new two-year deal with an option at Ewood Park, further underlining his potential.

On joining Latics, Olson said: “I’m really excited to get going here.
"Oldham’s a big club with great support, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping the team this season.
"I played here last year and it's by far the best atmosphere I've played in.
"So to call this place home for the season, I'm really excited."
Manager Micky Mellon added: “Charlie is a player with real maturity for his age.
"He’s had a taste of senior football and shown he can handle it.
"We believe he’ll be a really strong addition to the squad.”
He will wear the number 22 shirt.
Welcome to the club, Charlie!
