Oldham Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of Tom Donaghy on a deal until 30 June.

The shot-stopper joins from Fleetwood Town on a permanent deal after spending time at Boston United and Hereford this season.

Donaghy has spent over four years at Fleetwood impressing regularly when out on loan.

On joining Latics, Tom said: “I’m very pleased to be here, this is a massive club that I couldn’t say no to.

“I’ve had loans in my career that have been up and down, but I feel the chance to come here and get a run of games is a big step for me.

“The coaching staff here are great, Scott’s been top with me in the session I had today, and it all seems a good environment.

“The team are going well in the league, so hopefully I can come in at a good time and the success can continue.”

Tom’s career at youth level began at Bradford City but left the Bantams at 18 years old to join Fleetwood.

He initially signed a one-year-deal with an option and he was loaned out to Farsley Celtic where he arguably enjoyed his best spell.

At the start of the 2021/22 season Tom made 11 appearances from August to December.

He kept five consecutive clean sheets in those 11 games before The Cod recalled him, he remained as number two for the rest of the campaign.

In September 2022, he joined Northern Premier League Premier Division side Lancaster City on a 28-day youth loan, making two appearances for the club.

Following Lancaster was Colne where Tom played five times in their battle for survival.

On 16 February 2023, he joined Fleetwood's sister club Waterford on loan but returned to Fleetwood after only playing in the cup competitions.

He made his first-team debut for Fleetwood on 10 October 2023, in a 3–3 draw at Wigan Athletic in the EFL Trophy, saving two penalties in the shoot-out.

He has played for Hereford this season aswell as most recently Boston United, where he played twice.

On Tom’s arrival, Micky said: “Tom is a top quality goalkeeper who will come in and compliment what we already have.

“He’s very vocal, a good shot stopper and a keeper who has a lot of potential.

“We’re excited to work with him, he’s a great lad and he seems confident which is what makes a good goalie

“Our goalkeeping department like the whole squad has good quality and Tom only will add to that.”

He will wear the number 31 shirt.

Welcome to the club, Tom!
