Oldham Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of Corry Evans on a deal until the end of the season.

The highly experienced midfielder joins Latics after leaving Bradford City earlier this month.

Evans arrives with over 350 appearances for the likes of Sunderland, Hull and his most prolific stint with Blackburn Rovers where he made 206 appearances.

“It’s great to finally get it done, I was in training last week so I’m just really pleased to get it over the line,” he said.

“The club got in touch to see where I was at and if I wanted to come down, and when I came I could see the potential this club has to offer.

“The stadium is great, the pitch is fantastic so I’m just looking forward to getting started and helping in any way I can.

“We’re in a good position in the league so I’m coming in at a good time, the quality in the squad is there to see so this is an exciting project.

“If I can use any of my experience then I will do, it’s a tough league so we have to approach every game as it’s the last and look to pick up as many points as we can from now until the end of the season.”

Evans’ career began at Greenisland Boys but when his brother Jonny signed for Manchester United, Corry joined the youth team at the Reds.

He made appearances for the U18s side and reserve team becoming a regular in both sides respectively and was named on the bench for the first team once in the 2008/09 season.

In 2010, he was a part of the travelling squad for the club’s pre-season tour of North America and made an appearance against Philadelphia Union.

2011 came around and Corry was sent out on loan to Hull City to gain some first team action in the men’s game, he made 18 appearances and scored three goals becoming a likeable figure amongst the Tigers faithful.

His move was made permanent the following campaign and the midfielder went on to make a further 75 appearances scoring another three goals.

Blackburn followed for Evans where he signed a three-year-deal in 2013, he was a regular in the side and was rewarded with a further contract extension which took his stay at the club to 2019.

He made over 200 appearances for Rovers but departed at the end of the 2020-21 season.

In July 2021, Evans was signed by Sunderland under ex-Latics manager Lee Johnson as the club strived to get out of League One.

He was appointed club captain and made 61 appearances over his three seasons at the club.

Most recently he joined Bradford City in October on a short term deal and has made six appearances this season in League Two. He left earlier this month and now joins Latics until the end of the season.

He’s also a Northern Ireland international making 69 appearances for his country and most notably playing at Euro 2016 in France.

Manager Micky Mellon is delighted to bring someone with Corry’s pedigree in: “Corry is the type of player who will help the group dramatically,” he said.

“He brings with him plenty of experience, he’s a great guy and he comes in improving our midfield options.

“He’s a player who will break things up, go into challenges and look to make the game difficult for the opposition.

“Throughout his career he’s played at the top end of the pyramid and he’s a great example of a player who we think can help us to get to where we want to be.

“I’m sure the fans will get behind Corry’s arrival and will see what he can bring to the table in the games to come.”
