Oldham Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Ryan Woods from Exeter City on a two-year-contract.

Woods arrives at Boundary Park with a wealth of experience, having made over 450 senior appearances across the English Football League.

Known for his composure, sharp passing, and ability to dictate play, he adds significant quality to the Latics' midfield options.

A product of the Shrewsbury Town academy, Woods broke into the first team in 2012 and played a vital role across three seasons, making 103 appearances.

His performances earned him a move to Brentford in 2015 for an undisclosed fee, marking the start of a successful spell in the Championship.

During his time at Brentford, Woods quickly established himself as a key figure in midfield, registering 128 appearances and scoring three goals across a three year spell.

In 2018, Woods moved to Stoke City, initially on loan before making the deal permanent.

While at Stoke, he found game time limited and spent loan spells at Millwall and Birmingham City, where he continued to feature regularly in the Championship.

A move to Hull City followed in 2022, where he made 27 appearances.

He also enjoyed loan stints at Bristol Rovers and Exeter City, eventually joining the latter permanently in 2024. Last season, he featured 37 times in League One for the Grecians, contributing two goals and two assists.

At 31, Woods arrives at Oldham with vital experience and leadership qualities that manager Micky Mellon is keen to add to his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking about his new signing, Mellon said: “Ryan has played at the highest levels in the Championship and has the type of character and quality we want in this group.

"His ability to control games, keep the ball moving, and his leadership both on and off the pitch will be crucial as we look to push on this season.

“This is a real quality addition, and one that we’re extremely happy with.”

On his arrival, Woods said: “I’m really excited to here and can't wait to get started.

“Oldham is a massive club with ambitious plans, and as soon as I heard those, I knew this was the right move for me.

“I want to bring my experience to help the team push on now, and hopefully achieve something special this season."

Welcome to Boundary Park, Ryan!
