Oldham Athletic are pleased to confirm that goalkeeper Tom Donaghy has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at Boundary Park until the summer of 2027.

The 22-year-old joined Latics from Fleetwood Town in February 2025 and quickly caught the eye with his composed performances and professionalism after injury to number one Mat Hudson.

Born in Leeds, Donaghy began his footballing journey with Bradford City’s youth setup before moving to Fleetwood in 2021. During his time with the Cod Army, he gained valuable first-team experience through a number of loan spells that played a key role in his development.

One of his most notable stints came with Farsley Celtic, where he kept five clean sheets in 11 league appearances and earned plaudits.

He also featured for Lancaster City and Colne, gaining exposure in senior football and building confidence at a young age.

In 2023, Donaghy joined Waterford FC in Ireland, experiencing football in a different environment before returning to England to sign for Hereford in the National League North.

His time at Edgar Street saw him establish himself as a dependable presence, making 14 appearances and again catching the eye with his performances.

That spell was followed by a move to Boston United, where he added a further 10 games to his belt.

Since joining Latics, Donaghy has settled in effortlessly, rising to the task of being number one in Hudson’s absence through injury.

His performances in the games he featured in left a strong impression on many Latics fans and highlights the strength in depth in the goalkeeping department.

Under the guidance of goalkeeper coach Scott Davies, he has continued to progress in his development and this season, he’ll provide good, strong competition for the number one spot.

Speaking after signing his new deal, Donaghy said: “I’m really proud to be staying at Oldham. Since I came in February, I’ve felt a real connection with the club.

"The environment here is excellent, there's great staff, great players and I want to keep improving and help the team wherever I can.”

“I want to push as much as I can to play as many games as possible, Mat is a fantastic goalkeeper, but healthy competition can only help us both."

Goalkeeping coach Scott Davies added" “Tom came in mid-season and immediately impressed. He trains hard, learns quickly, and adds healthy competition in goal. We’re delighted he’s committed his future to us.”

“His attitude is excellent, he’s willing to learn and train hard on a daily basis, they’re the characters we want in the group, so we’re delighted to bring Tom back."

Welcome back, Tom!
