Hudson Signs New Deal
First Team
20 June 25
Oldham Athletic are delighted to confirm that goalkeeper Mat Hudson has signed a new three-year contract, extending his stay at Boundary Park ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 26-year-old played a key role in last season’s successful promotion to League Two and now commits to a fourth season with Latics.
Hudson originally joined Oldham in the winter of 2022 and quickly established himself as a dependable figure within the squad.
While initially arriving as a back-up, he was ever-present in the matchday environment and earned plaudits for his attitude, professionalism, and influence around the group.
That consistency, both in training and in matches he played in after injury to Magnus Norman, saw him cement his position as the club’s number one following Mellon’s appointment. He made a series of standout performances during the 2024/25 campaign, helping Latics secure their return to the EFL.

Speaking after signing his new deal, Hudson said:
“I’m really proud to be staying at Oldham. This club means a lot to me and I’ve enjoyed every minute here. Last season was a huge step forward and I want to play my part again as we head into League Two.
“We’ve got a strong group, good people on and off the pitch, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. I feel settled here and I’m just looking forward to getting back to work and helping the team however I can.
“It was a no brainer to sign again, we’ve shown what we can be capable of and I want to be apart of pushing the club forward in League Two."
A product of Preston North End’s academy, Hudson rose through the ranks at Deepdale and made his senior debut in 2016 as a 17-year-old in the Championship coming on against Leeds United after first-choice keeper Jordan Pickford was sent off. That appearance made him one of the youngest goalkeepers to feature for Preston in the modern era.
He went on to gain valuable experience with loan spells at Bury and Bamber Bridge, before departing Preston in 2022.

Hudson then joined Buxton in the National League North, where his consistent performances between the posts earnt him a move to Boundary Park later that year.
Since arriving at Oldham, he has continued to develop as a trusted number one goalkeeper and this new deal is the next step in Mat’s Latics career.
Goalkeeping Coach Scott Davies added:
“Mat’s been a great professional from day one. He’s a great guy who works hard every day, and I’ve always spoke of how highly I rate him.
“He's exactly what you want from your goalkeeper, he’s a really positive influence in the group and we’re delighted he’s staying with us.
“I believe with Mat we have an excellent goalkeeper who will work hard all season long, so I’m very happy he has commited for to the club long-term."
We’re pleased to have you back, Mat!
