Defender Daniels Arrives

Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Donervon Daniels on a two-year deal.

The experienced defender arrives at Boundary Park following the expiry of his contract at Walsall, becoming the latest addition to Micky Mellon’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 Sky Bet League Two campaign.

Daniels, 31, adds leadership and proven quality to the Latics back line, bringing with him under 350 senior appearances across the EFL and the Scottish Premiership.

A product of the West Bromwich Albion academy, the centre-half gained his first taste of senior football with loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Gillingham and Blackpool, where he helped the Seasiders secure Championship survival in 2014/15. 

He later joined Blackpool permanently after a successful spell with Wigan Athletic, where he made 44 appearances and scored three goals during their League One title-winning campaign in 2015/16.

Following stints with Rochdale, Luton Town and Doncaster Rovers, Daniels became a key figure at Crewe Alexandra before joining Walsall in January 2022. He went on to make 115 appearances for the Saddlers and captained the side.

Standing at 6’1”, Daniels is known for his aerial dominance, organisational qualities and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.

He has also represented Montserrat at international level, earning seven caps and scoring his first goal for his country in 2023.

Speaking after signing his contract at Boundary Park, Daniels said:

"I want to bring my experience to the group and help push the team forward this season. I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

“Once I heard of the interest it was a no brainer for me, the staff sold me on the vision here, and it’s something I really am excited about."

Manager Micky Mellon added:

“Donervon is a fantastic addition for us. He’s someone who knows this level inside out and has the leadership qualities we want in the squad.

"Once I heard he was available there was no doubt in my mind we had to move quickly to bring him here.

"He’s a strong character, reads the game well, and has that bit of quality in possession. We’re really pleased to have him on board.”
