Oldham Athletic are pleased to confirm the signing of experienced midfielder Kieron Morris on a one-year deal with the option of a further year, following the expiry of his contract at Tranmere Rovers.

Morris, 31, brings a wealth of EFL experience to Boundary Park having made over 350 senior appearances across a career that has included spells at Walsall and Tranmere, along with loan moves at Worcester City, Leamington and Wrexham.

A product of Walsall’s youth system, he made his professional debut in 2013 and would go on to make 162 appearances in all competitions for the Saddlers, scoring 19 goals.

After a successful loan spell at Tranmere in 2019, he joined the Wirral club on a permanent basis and became a mainstay in their midfield across six seasons, registering over 240 appearances and 32 goals.

During his time at Prenton Park, Morris enjoyed success under current Latics boss Micky Mellon, playing a key role in Tranmere’s 2019 League Two play-off winning side and later helping them reach the EFL Trophy final in 2021.

He was named Tranmere’s Player of the Season in 2019/20 and featured regularly in the last campaign, making over 30 appearances in all competitions.

The move sees Morris reunited with Mellon and members of his backroom staff ahead of the new campaign, as the Latics continue to strengthen the squad for the challenges ahead.

Speaking about the addition, manager Micky Mellon said: “Kieron is exactly the sort of player we wanted to bring in this summer.

"He’s someone I know very well, someone who understands how we want to play, and someone who brings real quality and experience.

"He’s got the ability to control games, he chips in with goals, and he sets high standards every day. He’s a fantastic professional and a great character, and I’ve no doubt he’ll be a big influence on and off the pitch.”

New signing Kieron added: “I’m really pleased to get this move sorted and I’m excited for the new challenge.

"I’ve worked with Micky and the staff before and I know what they expect, it’s a great environment and I’m looking forward to being part of it.

"Oldham is a big club with big ambitions and I’m here to give everything I’ve got to help the team push forward.”

Welcome to the club, Kieron!
