Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce that Jake Leake has signed a permanent one-year deal, with an option, following a successful loan spell last season.

The 22-year-old, who initially joined Latics on loan from Hull City in January, has now committed his future to Boundary Park until the summer of 2026.

Leake quickly established himself as a key figure in Micky Mellon’s side during the second half of the campaign before injury hampered his end to the season. He made 16 league appearances and played an important role in the club’s promotion push back to League Two.

Before arriving at Oldham, Leake gained valuable experience through loan spells with Boston United, Scunthorpe United, and Tranmere Rovers.

A graduate of Hull City’s academy, Leake made his senior debut for Hull in an EFL Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers in August 2021 and was named in several matchday squads for the Tigers during the 2021/22 season.

During his loan at Scunthorpe United in the 2022/23 season, he featured 16 times in the National League, scoring once in a 3–2 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

He then joined Tranmere Rovers on loan for the 2023/24 season, making eight appearances in League Two before being recalled by Hull in January.

In total, across his various loan spells and including his time at Oldham, Leake has already made over 45 senior appearances in all competitions. Known for his energetic style, overlapping runs, and solid defensive work, he has also contributed with a handful of assists during his loan spells.

Speaking about making the move permanent, Leake said: “I’ve loved every minute here since I arrived. The club, the fans, and the whole environment have been brilliant for me.

"I’m excited to call Oldham my home now and can’t wait to get started again, help the team push on in League Two and show what this group is capable of.

"I feel like I developed a good connection with the fans so this just felt to me like the right place to play my football this season."

Manager Micky Mellon added: “Jake has shown great character and quality since he joined us.

"He’s a player who fits perfectly into our style and brings real strength to our left side. We’re delighted he’s chosen to continue his journey with us permanently.

"His attitude is excellent, and he's still a young boy learning the game. We believe he has a lot of potential and this season he'll be a key player for us."

Welcome back, Jake!
