Matchday 16 of the Skybet League Two season sees Latics host Crewe Alexandra on Saturday afternoon at Boundary Park.

Latics head into the weekend in good form and enjoying a strong start to November. Excluding Tuesday’s EFL Trophy defeat, which saw a much-changed side as Micky Mellon rotated his squad, Oldham have picked up two impressive wins on the bounce.

After beating League One side Northampton in the FA Cup a fortnight ago, Latics followed up with an important league win against Harrogate last weekend. Manny Monthe’s first-half strike proved enough to secure a 1-0 victory at Wetherby Road.

That result leaves Oldham sitting 14th in League Two ahead of Saturday’s fixture, six points off the top seven.

Opposition

The 2025/26 season is Crewe’s third campaign back in the fourth tier following their relegation from League One in 2022.

The Railwaymen finished 13th last season, eight points outside the play-offs. It was a disappointing return after reaching the play-off final the year before.

Crewe travel north in good form, having won their last two league matches on either side of an FA Cup defeat at home to League One Doncaster. Last weekend, Lee Bell’s side earned a convincing 3–1 victory over Shrewsbury Town at Gresty Road.

Key Players

One of Crewe’s standout threats this season has been Emre Tezgal, the club’s leading goalscorer. The 20-year-old Stoke City loanee is a tall, pacey striker who causes constant problems for defenders. His eight goals so far this season include a hat-trick against Grimsby three weeks ago.

Experienced forward Omar Bogle is also an influential figure for the Alex. After missing the start of the season through injury, he has returned to the side – and to scoring form. He netted Crewe’s third goal in the win over Shrewsbury last weekend, before adding two more in midweek cup action.

In The Dugout

Lee Bell has been in charge of Crewe since taking the role permanently in December 2022.

A former midfielder, Bell came through the academy at Crewe and represented the club from 2002 to 2007 before spells with Mansfield Town and Macclesfield Town. He rejoined the Railwaymen in 2010 for a further two years before moving on to Burton Albion, eventually returning to Macclesfield for a brief spell prior to retiring.

Following his playing career, Bell returned to Crewe as U18s coach, then U23s manager, before becoming assistant to Alex Morris. When Morris stepped down in November 2022, Bell took charge on an interim basis and was appointed permanently a month later.

Under his management, Crewe reached the League Two play-off final last season, where they were beaten 2–1 by Crawley Town at Wembley.
