Oldham Athletic has a vacancy for an Assistant PDP Coach to support the delivery of the Professional Development Phase programme, helping to maximise player development and prepare players for first-team football.

The role assists the Lead PDP Coach in designing and delivering high-quality training sessions, contributing to the multi-disciplinary development plans, and supporting player progression in line with the club’s playing philosophy and the requirements of the EPPP.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Coaching & Player Development

·      Support the planning, delivery, and review of daily PDP training sessions in alignment with the club’s technical and tactical framework.

·      Assist in match preparation, including opposition analysis, team selection discussions, and individual player objectives.

·      Deliver individual development plans (IDPs) for selected players and contribute to the review process.

·      Provide detailed technical, tactical, physical, and psychological feedback to players.

 

2. Matchday Duties

·      Assist the Lead Coach on matchdays with warm-ups, in-game coaching, tactical adjustments, and substitution management.

·      Help compile post-match reviews for individuals and units.

·      Contribute to match analysis, including coding, clipping, and review sessions.

 

3. Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration

·      Work closely with Sports Science, Medical, Analysis, Education, Safeguarding, and Player Care staff to support holistic player development.

·      Attend and contribute to weekly multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

·      Ensure all coaching delivery aligns with long-term player development strategies and loading guidelines.

 

4. Administration & Compliance

·      Contribute to the maintenance of coaching logs, session plans, and player records in line with EPPP requirements.

·      Assist with audit preparation and ensure all coaching work meets Category 3 standards.

·      Ensure safeguarding, welfare, and equality responsibilities are followed at all times.

 

5. Professionalism & Community

·      Establish positive, productive relationships with players, parents, and staff.

·      Serve as a role model demonstrating professionalism, discipline, and the academy’s values.

·      Represent the academy at internal and external events when required.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

·      UEFA A Licence

·      FA Safeguarding Children Certificate.

·      Valid FA Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF).

·      Experience coaching within an academy or elite youth football environment.

·      Strong understanding of the Professional Development Phase and EPPP requirements.

Desirable Skills & Attributes

·      Experience working with 16–19 age groups.

·      Competence with modern analysis software (e.g., Hudl, SportsCode, Veo).

·      Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

·      Ability to build rapport and educate young players transitioning into senior football.

·      High levels of organisation, adaptability, and attention to detail.

Other Requirements

·      Flexible working approach, including evenings, weekends, and matchdays.

·      Enhanced DBS check.

·      Commitment to ongoing CPD and coach development.
