Oldham Athletic has been made aware by Greater Manchester Police of a number of recent incidents, both at home and away fixtures, which fall short of the standards expected from those representing our club.

These include reports of discriminatory language, objects being thrown, the use of smoke bombs, encroachment onto the field of play and instances of anti-social behaviour.

While we recognise that these incidents involve a very small number of individuals, their actions have a wider impact, affecting the safety and enjoyment of fellow supporters, as well as damaging the club’s reputation and risking financial penalties.

The vast majority of our supporters follow the team with passion, respect and pride. We are grateful for that continued support and the positive atmosphere it creates.

However, we must be clear that behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated. Those found responsible face sanctions from both the club and the authorities, including potential bans and criminal prosecution.

In recent matches, incidents have taken place leading to the arrest and ejection of a number of supporters.

We ask all supporters to continue helping us to maintain a safe and supportive environment for everyone. If you witness behaviour that does not reflect our values, please report it immediately to a steward or via the club’s matchday reporting channels so that appropriate action can be taken.

We would like to remind supporters that entering the field of play is an offence that can result in ejection from the stadium and a possible football ban, and taking pyrotechnics, including flares and smoke bombs, into a stadium is strictly prohibited.

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture at Salford City, checks will be in place at the turnstiles so please allow yourself enough time.

Together, we can ensure Oldham Athletic continues to be represented in the right way both on and off the pitch.
