MATCH PREVIEW: Scunthorpe United vs. Oldham Athletic

2 March 2018

Oldham Athletic are back in action this weekend after an 18-day break as they travel to Glanford Park to face Scunthorpe United (3pm kick off).

Latics last played a competitive fixture on Tuesday, February 13 as they beat MK Dons 1-0. Anthony Gerrard scored the only goal of the game as Athletic moved out of the relegation places.

However, they have since dropped back in due to a two-weekend break. Due to Rochdale’s involvement in the FA Cup, that game had to be rearranged and last weekend, the Southend United clash was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

That meant Oldham Athletic moved back into the danger zone but now have two games in hand on rivals around them.

With the weather causing havoc, a lot of games in Sky Bet League One have already been postponed and a win for Latics tomorrow will move them out of the relegation spots.

Scunthorpe United are currently four games without a win and have yet to win at home since New Year’s Day.

They currently sit sixth in Sky Bet League One and have picked up 57 points from their 35 games this season.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wellens said: “There is only Hunt who might be struggling with his achillies.

“He will be a doubt and Doyle isn’t back yet. McEleney is back and should be involved but everyone is ready to go.

“Doyle is not far off. I would have liked a practise match in him on Wednesday when we were supposed to play Fleetwood but that was called off.

“That would have been ideal for him. What I don’t want to do is push him too much and lose him for 10 games.

“If I’m having him, I want him at 100% for 10 games rather than force him a bit quicker and put ourselves back but it’s going to be a massive lift when he comes back.”

Sky Bet have listed Athletic as outsiders for tomorrow’s game at 14/5 whilst the hosts are 19/20.
