Manager wary of Walsall

20 August 2012

Saddlers will be threat says Dickov

Paul Dickov is wary of the threat Walsall will pose on tomorrow's npower League One visit to Latics.

Latics' manager is disregarding the Saddlers' disappointing start to the season.

Dickov said: "I have seen a lot of Walsall pre-season and I am not paying much attention to their 3-0 home defeat by Doncaster Rovers on Saturday when they had the misfortune of conceding two wonder goals.

"In the two years I have been Latics’ manager, our games against Walsall have always been tight and I don’t envisage anything different tomorrow, but I do expect us to win the game."

Latics' manager has had time to reflect on Saturday's defeat at Milton Keynes Dons in their opening npower League One game.

He said: "I have watched the game again and the frustrating thing is that, without playing anywhere near our best, I feel we could have got something from it.

"Yet again we conceded two sloppy goals which was disappointing when you bear in mind the defensive work we have done for the last eight weeks.

"If there was anything positive to take from the game, we weren’t at our best and feel there wasn’t that much between the teams.

"When we start to fire on all cylinders, which we hope to start doing tomorrow, I am sure we will be hard to beat."

Latics will again be without James Wesolowski who is having a scan tomorrow on his damaged hamstring.

James Tarkowski, who had stitches inserted in a cut above his eye and who also has a dead leg, is expected to play according to Dickov.
