Slew will be a big hit

Dickov's view on new striker

Newly-signed striker Jordan Slew will be a big hit with Latics according to Paul Dickov.

Latics' manager believes the 19-year-old Blackburn Rovers player, who has signed until January, is the type of player his side needs.

Dicov explained: "Jordan will give us a physical presence up front as well as being lightning fast which scares defences.

"We need somebody with pace to stretch defences as well as scoring goals which Jordan will do.

"Jordan has a lot of potential and Blackburn regard him highly."

Dickov revealed that he beat off considerable competition from other clubs to land Slew, who has clocked a time of 11.2sec for 100metres, on a six-month loan.

Where Latics scored was that Blackburn wanted Slew to sign for the Boundary Park club.

"They saw how Jason Lowe came on when he came on loan the season before last and also the way we try to play football," he explained.

Lowe returned to Ewood Park to last season become a regular in their Premier League side.

Dickov added that Slew had been their No 1 striker target in the close season and he is delighted to have landed him.

Latics' manager added he is still hoping to add to his squad.

He said: "We are still looking and have to be the right one at the right price.

"In Jordan, we have got the right one at the right time."
