Dynamic Daniel hits hat trick

Daniel Taylor scored a hat trick as Latics' reserves beat Wrexham 4-1 at Chapel Road in their Central League, West Division match.

The young striker (pictured) produced a masterclass of finishing as Latics emerged emphatic winners.

While Taylor earned the plaudits, goalkeeper Liam Jacob also played a starring role.

Jacob made a series of superb saves with Wrexham reserve-team manager Joey Jones, the Liverpool legend, saying his side didn't deserve to lose 4-1.

Latics made an electrifying start and were 2-0 ahead inside nine minutes.

Taylor opened the scoring in the third minute with a glancing header from a Carl Winchester cross.

Chris Sutherland provided the cross for Youssouf M'Changama to slot home the second.

And Taylor was soon denied a second by a brilliant block by Wrexham keeper John Hodgin.

Latics preserved their two-goal advantage thanks to a couple of breathtaking saves to deny Jay Colbeck and Declan Walker.

Taylor scored his second goal just short of the hour heading home a Kirk Millar cross.

Wrexham pulled a goal back with 19 minutes left, a free header from Jonathan Royal.

Jacob pulled off another terrific stop to deny Robbie Evans.

Hodgkin made an athletic save to turn over a header from substitute Jack Poxon.

Taylor headed narrowly over before completing his hat trick with almost the last kick of the match.

Left-back David Mellor played a delightful ball down the line to Taylor who cut inside before curling a shot high into the far top corner of the net.
